The Three Core Components of the SEED Program

May 2, 2025

🌱 SEED: Planting Seeds of Mental Wellness for Hong Kong’s Next Generation 🫰🏼

📈 The alarm has been sounded for children’s mental health in Hong Kong. Recent survey data indicates that local children experience depression at rates 10% higher than the global average. Alarmingly, the suicide rate among girls under 15 has surged sevenfold in just one year. Meanwhile, teachers are reporting a high level of stress, facing unprecedented challenges.

🧠 Research shows that mindfulness can significantly enhance children’s ability to manage their emotions and social interactions. The SEED program (Social, Emotional, Ethical Development), launched by The Bodhi Love Foundation, is a mindfulness education initiative designed to foster self-awareness, empathy, and a sense of interconnectedness in children. By equipping them with emotional intelligence and mental resilience from an early age, the program prepares them to navigate life’s challenges more effectively. Featuring Dr. Daniel Goleman—renowned as the “Father of EQ”—as a consultant, SEED Curriculum is the first early childhood curriculum in Hong Kong adapted from the U.S.-based Kindness Curriculum, thoughtfully localized to better serve our communities.

We believe that nurturing the next generation begins with empowering teachers and parents through mindfulness. As such, the program extends beyond early childhood education to encompass comprehensive training for educators and caregivers. 🧘🏽‍♀️
