Shared the journey in establishing the charity
April 23, 2025In a recent documentary shoot, Ms. Poman Lo, Founder of the Bodhi Love Foundation (the Foundation), shared her journey in establishing the charity and promoting mindfulness in education.
Having studied psychology at university, Ms. Lo has long been a proponent of physical health and mental wellbeing. In 2013, she established the Foundation to serve as a beacon of hope and raise public awareness about spiritual and mental health in Hong Kong, a city known for its high-pressure environment and competitive society. It is against this backdrop that she sought to create a platform to nurture the next generation of compassionate leaders and wise global citizens.
Later, she and her team had the privilege to collaborate with renowned American psychologist Dr. Daniel Goleman, known as the ‘Father of EQ’. Together, they embarked on a mission to launch the SEED 🌱 (Social, Emotional, Ethical Development) Program to help children foster critical life skills in their early years. Despite numerous initial setbacks, the team remained determined and later experienced a sharp uptick in interest from schools amidst the pandemic and the impact it had on mental health awareness. This ultimately led to the successful launch of the SEED Program in 2021, with support from local charities Po Leung Kuk, Yan Oi Tong, and a number of Buddhist kindergartens. 🏫
Reflecting on her own upbringing, Ms. Lo recalled being a competitive child who prioritized academic success. Growing up in a resource-rich environment, she excelled in her studies but often felt lost and without true purpose. It wasn’t until later in life that she realized genuine happiness and fulfilment comes from within, rather than external factors like academic achievement, fame, or wealth. Happiness stems from nurturing and reconnecting with our inner selves, letting go of the external, and cultivating gratitude for each moment in the present through mindfulness practice. Every single breath we take is worth appreciating. As a business leader, her mission now centers around creating impact in every project that she leads, whether it be in sustainability initiatives or empowering the leaders of tomorrow through holistic education. 👦 👧
With Bodhi Love Foundation, Ms Lo. hopes to carve a new pathway to empower children and allow them to thrive in this fast-changing world. From advancing neuroscience research to promoting the benefits of mindfulness practice, the Foundation aims to shine a light on the importance of inner development for children and society. She sees herself as a team member in this organization, where each individual has the potential to join in her mission to co-create change, and envisions a brighter future where mindfulness and education goes hand in hand. 🌈
