SEED (Social, Emotional, Ethical Development) Program

February 28, 2025

SEED 🌱 (Social, Emotional, Ethical Development) Program, initiated by the Bodhi Love Foundation, is Hong Kong’s mindfulness-based social and emotional learning (SEL) curriculum designed for kindergarten students. The program addresses the growing trend of psychological issues affecting younger populations. It aims to help the next generation develop awareness, empathy, and interconnectedness from an early childhood, enabling them to face life with higher emotional intelligence and social skills. The Foundation is honored to have Dr. Daniel Goleman, renowned American psychologist known as the “Father of EQ,” as the program consultant in the first year of the beginning of the program. Since 2021, the program has conducted several pilot projects.

In 2025, we are collaborating some kindergartens to implement the curriculum, which covers themes including “Caring oneself and others,” “Understanding and managing emotions and thoughts,” and “Understanding the oneness of all life and interconnectedness of the world”. Students learn to cultivate loving kindness from within, extending it to the world.

Our SEED team and mindfulness-trained teachers are conducting lessons in kindergartens, using interactive activities to teach children about “forgiving yourself and others.” Starting with mindfulness exercises like awareness of sound and breathing, and progressing to storytelling and scenario-based group activities, children experience and learn emotional regulation and social skills through enjoyable games!

We believe this program will create a ripple effect, spreading the benefits of mindfulness in communities starting from early childhood, particularly benefiting children from low-income families.
