🌳 How SEED is Empowering Our Future Leaders: Revolutionizing Education with Mindfulness

“SEED introduces a fresh perspective into positive education in schools, beginning with inner awareness to help children understand and manage their emotions—rather than being controlled by them.”

Since the implementation of the SEEDCurriculum, we have received heartfelt feedback from kindergartens across Hong Kong. During the filming of our documentary at the PoLeungKuk Lui Chan Wai Ching (Kwai Fong) Kindergarten-cum-Nursery, Principal Yip joyfully shared the program’s positive impact.

She described the course design as concrete and engaging. In addition to localized children’s songs and storytelling with picture books, tools like “breathing buddy,” mind jars, and breathing ball make the perception of breathing more tangible. “Children love their breathing buddies, which accompany them during breathing meditation practice. Some parents even created unique outfits especially for these bunny dolls. Children look forward to their mindfulness classes, showing great enthusiasm during lessons and eagerly asking when the next class will be.” 🐰🌟

Apart from mindful breathing, the curriculum also fosters gratitude and appreciation, while teaching children to recognize their emotions as they arise. Principal Yip also observed meaningful changes among teachers—particularly in how they engage with others and navigate daily life. They began applying the “30-70 Principle”: maintaining 70% engagement in interaction while preserving 30% mindful awareness. This balanced approach helps them stay present and less reactive in emotionally charged situations. With both children and teachers participating in the mindfulness program, a supportive environment of self-awareness and emotional understanding has blossomed.

Miss Yu, leader of the visual arts team, shared her personal experience. The busy and fragmented nature of teaching often left her feeling mentally drained and scattered. Initially unfamiliar with mindfulness, she completed the eight-week teacher training and became aware of her wandering thoughts, learning to live more fully in the present moment. She noted that mindfulness helped children develop gratitude, leading to profound changes. They fall asleep more calmly which has improved emotional regulation.

Today, the SEED Curriculum has planted the seeds of mindfulness in over 17 kindergartens, bringing about positive transformations in early childhood education and teacher development. These genuine testimonials have further strengthened our belief that mindfulness education can lay a solid foundation for children’s emotional, social, and mental well-being.👦🏻🧒🏻 🤲🏻
