Values the cultivation of children’s character

April 25, 2025

“Education is not only about imparting knowledge; we are developing holistic education that values the cultivation of children’s character, including their cognitive and emotional development.” Dr. Eliza Lau shares the philosophy and process behind the development of the SEED Program. 🤲

SEED Program originated from the “Kindness Curriculum” developed by the Center for Healthy Minds at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in US. This program provides social-emotional learning (SEL) education for preschool children, effectively improving their social and emotional management. In 2019, Ms. Poman Lo, our founder of Bodhi Love Foundation, was inspired by this curriculum and began discussing with the team how to effectively promote the mindfulness program to children in Hong Kong. 🧸 🧘 🧘‍♀️ 👦 👧

Eliza believes that we must first help adults understand themselves so they can better nurture children. In 2021, SEED (Social, Emotional, Ethical Development) Program was launched in Hong Kong, providing mindfulness training for partnership school teachers. Through mindfulness training and practice, the principals and teachers experienced personal transformation, which not only facilitated the program’s development but also led to mindfulness being integrated into other subjects in school such as physical education and music.
Encouragingly, Eliza found that children often have greater potential in learning mindfulness than adults. For those have special educational needs (SEN), mindfulness effectively helps them communicate with others from the heart. 💓

“Mindfulness helps us deeply understand our potential and our relationship with the world. Understanding ourselves enables us to understand others, ultimately fostering social cooperation and world peace.” Eliza and the team truly recognize the importance of mindfulness and look forward to training more educators, allowing even more individuals to reap its benefits. 🌱 🌈
